The Brand New Solar Power Tax Credit Is Here !
If you've been
considering solar for your home or business,
it's now time to celebrate ! After nearly a
year of debates and nine previous attempts, On
Friday October 3rd 2008 Congress
finally approved a bill that not only
extends the Federal 30% tax credit for solar
but also removes the $2,000.00 cap that
existed on the previous residential tax
credit. That's an
incredible 30% with no cap for residential
and commercial installations !
If you haven't
already purchased a solar system and applied
for your rebate approval then you're probably
faced with a dilemma. If you wait till next
year so that you can take advantage of the
higher tax credit, then you run a big risk
that the current higher rebate amounts that
are offered by your state will have expired.
On the other hand if you install your system
this year, you'll qualify for the higher cash
rebate amounts but you'll then qualify for the
smaller Federal tax credit that is currently
available.
As of 10/03/08 California's CSI program
reports that there is only approximately ten
megawatts worth of rebate funds left for SCE
and approximately Eight megawatts worth of
rebate funds left for PG&E at the current
higher rebate amounts. Once these remaining
megawatts have been reserved, the rebates
will drop to only $1,900.00 per AC kilowatt. hours for
Southern California Edison and only
$1,550.00 per kilowatt hours for Pacific Gas &
Electric.
